MARIETTA, GA – The Huntsville Stars clinched the Southern League Western Division first-half title with an exhilarating 6-5 win over Birmingham on Thursday night at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium. The championship-clinching win came one night after the Carolina Mudcats claimed the Eastern Division first-half title with a 9-8 come-from-behind victory over the Chattanooga Lookouts at BellSouth Park on Wednesday.

By wining their first-half division races the Mudcats and Stars will both host the first two games of the divisional playoffs in September. The Mudcats will host the second-half Eastern Division Champion September 3rd and 4th at Five County Stadium while the Stars will host the second-half Western Division Champion September 3rd and 4th at Joe W. Davis Stadium.
